Jacqulyn

Hi – I’m Jacqulyn – a babyboomer senior who is still exploring life. .

The sections will explore my journey – and so far it has been great. Over half of it has been spent as an “American Housewife”. I have been married to the love of my life since March of 1964. When women were trying to distance themselves from being “just a housewife” I learned to embrace it. It offered the freedom to explore the world. We lived on one income and managed to buy a house, travel with our five wonderful children and do our separate and together things. When the children were in school I did the mom in the school and scout stuff. I attended college late – in my 40’s – and managed to teach bilingual Spanish classes in the city’s school system and then photography at the local university. I also studied at the University of Mexico in Meridad, attended a language school in Guatemala and traveled to Central America to do photo documentaries in Nicaragua and a small fishing village near Cancun. For our 25th wedding anniversary my life partner and I traveled to Hawaii for two weeks and twenty years later spent a couple of weeks in Spain. Just this last October I traveled to Haiti to document a medical mission. Also for the last few years I have been documenting political unrest in Madison and Chicago.

In 1995 my husband, John, brought home his dream car – a 1961 Corvette – at the time it was in meat boxes – the previous owner had disassembled it – so I guess John got a discount. Three months later he and his brother had it up and running, with a coat of primer, in time to be entered in a summer car show. It now is a beautiful shiny red and it brings a sense of nostalgia just by its presence. We crisscross many areas of the USA in it. I love riding with the top down and the wind blowing through my hair.

I hope to put these memories in some type of order. I’m going to begin with the beginning – childhood – there will be other pages to follow – one will not be complete before beginning another – it will not be a linear journey – that’s just not how I roll – so let us see what transpires.
